7 Ways to prevent diaper rash ♡ All natural and organic ♡ For a happy baby skin

7 Ways to prevent diaper rash. Because, what is better than treating nappy rash? Indeed! Preventing it. Diaper rash is an irritated baby skin. Which is 100% to blame on wearing dirty nappies. Not ready to go fully diaper-free?

Luckily, there are options to reduce diaper rash. And even fully prevent it.

Read on to find out:

1. How Elimination Communication prevents diaper rash

Have you heard of Elimination Communication (EC)? Or in other words: baby on the potty, diaper-free? This sounds crazy to many. However, it is supernatural. And much easier than it sounds!

We started EC from newborn. And it is much easier than expected! Our six months old never poo in her diaper. And never really did. Maximum 20 times in her whole life. We only use cloth diapers as a back up for weeing. Because babies wee often and there isn’t always a toilet near…

No poo diapers do magic for preventing diaper rash! As our baby rarely (never) experiences diaper rash. No nappy rash is only one of the many great benefits of Elimination Communication. As it also a great way to improve bonding with your baby, save money (and the planet) from diapers trash and super beneficial for baby’s wellbeing.

Let’s be honest. Who wants to lay in a dirty poo diaper?

2. How organic cloth diapers reduce nappy rash

If you haven’t already, make the switch to organic cloth diapers. As regular diapers all contain artificial materials that harm your baby’s skin. Besides being much better for baby’s skin. Organic cloth diapers help enormously to save the planet as disposable diapers form the number one landfill. Other than caring for mother nature. Reusable diapers also save you lots of money!

When using cloth diapers, be sure to wash your diapers with organic soap.

3. Switch to organic wipes to prevent diaper rash

Another considerable money and planet saver is to switch to reusable wipes. Instead of the disposable wet wipes. Organic cloth wipes are also way better for your baby’s skin. As they don’t contain any alcohol, perfume or other nasty ingredients that harm your little one.

Because we practise Elimination Communication from newborn, we rinse our baby’s bottom with water. And then use the organic wipes to dry. So we don’t use any soaps whatsoever.

4. Plant-based oils to soften baby’s skin

Even a cloth diaper makes baby’s skin dry. Therefore we use organic sweet almond oil to soften baby’s bottom. We use this a few times per day when we see it is needed. So, we don’t use it with every nappy changing. Or, in our case, potty time.

You can choose any organic plant-based oil, which is free from chemicals. Coconut oil, rapeseed oil and rosehip oil are also great for baby’ skin.

5. Baby massage for soft baby bottom

A treat for baby’s bottom: a baby massage! Which has so many benefits for both mama and baby. One of them is blood circulation to your baby’s bottom. At the same time, you are keeping it nice and soft with some lovely plant-based oil.

6. Diaper-free time to limit diaper rash

Yay; diaper-free time outdoors! What doesn’t get healed by the sunshine and fresh air? Great for baby’s bottom and soul! Because being outside is a great way to let baby’s skin breath.

We use our yoga mats as these are easy to clean when an accident happens.

These diaper-free moments are also perfect to practise naked observation. Naked observation is a great way to learn about your baby’s cues for needing to go to the potty. At the same time, you keep a close eye on your baby. To see what baby signs before she needs to wee. Believe me; babies do let you know when it is their time to go!

7. Make sure baby’s bottom is dry before putting a new diaper on

When changing your little one, make sure their bottom is fully dry. Best is to give your baby some cuddles, sing a song or play a bit before putting a new diaper one. The less time your baby spends in a diaper, the best!

Summary

Diaper rash is a red and irritated skin of button of your baby. Also called: nappy rash. What better way to treat it than by preventing?

Elimination Communication (EC): a diaper-free baby. Yes, this is possible! Helps you to get off the dirty diapers much faster. As a result, you are eliminating nasty rashes.

Because the only way to entirely prevent nappy rash is to stop using diapers.

However, even when still wearing diapers, you can reduce nappy rash. A great way to do this is by switching to organic cloth diapers and wipes. Which are better for baby’s skin, the planet and your wallet!

Another way to prevent diaper rash is by keeping your baby’s skin nice and soft. You can use organic plant-based oil. Which you can apply with a nappy change. Or even better. With a lovely baby massage!

Finally: let’s go outside! And let baby enjoy some diaper-free time. Fresh air and sunshine is a great way to keep baby’s bottom – and soul – happy!
