1. Postpartum care for your yoni
Postpartum care for your yoni. Because your body created magic!
What a magical experience. Giving birth. Be sure to give your yoni the love it deserves. After such a blessing.
Take good care of your vagina after birth.
To make sure it heals as soon as possible. My doula took great care of me.
Lucky me.
Because, I forgot the “me” part in my birth preparations. As I only thought about the baby.
I’m so happy my doula prepared the following items.
Which you can also prepare yourself. In case you don’t have a doula:
1. Herbal cotton pads in the freezer
Our freezer was stocked. Not with ice-cream this time.
But with cotton pads. These where drained in herbs.
Every time I went to the toilet for a pee. I used these pads to cool my vagina.
Which really helped a lot!
My doula wrapped the pad in some toilet paper. And we put it on top of the special pregnancy “menstruation” pads. These pads I was wearing in my granny underwear.
Gifted to me by my best friend. Who stocked me up with all practical and so much needed essentials.
It is a blessing to have a mama group to support you! And share some practical postpartum tips.
2. Herbal yoni spray
My doula also made a herbal yoni spray.
Which I was using every-time after using the bathroom.
It felt super refreshing and calming to use the spray.
Ideally you put it in the fridge so that it also cools down your vagina. I just had it in the bathroom as the fridge was far away. Which also really helped.
I used the spray for a week or two.
However, how long you like to use is personal. As it depends on how fast you are healing.
3. Use the shower for a wee
This is an old time favourite. But not to forget.
Use the shower to have a wee.
So, your vagina cleans with the fresh water.
And, it helps with the stinging sensations you might get when wee-ing.
Postpartum herbs and teas
We had two mixes of herbal postpartum tea. Which I was also drinking in the final week(s) before birth. You can mix the two as well.
4. Breastfeeding tea
This herbal mix of anise and fennel. Helps to get your breastmilk flowing.
To get your breastmilk flowing drinking is super important.
5. Womb healing tea
Be sure to have a big pot of tea next to your bed. And of course lots of water!
6. Herbal pills: Shatavari
We got Shatavari, an Ayurvedic medicine, recommended by a doctor in India.
As we where doing courses at the time I was pregnant.
Shatavari improves female hormones.
Especially recommended to take for breastfeeding mama’s.
I started with this in the final weeks of my pregnancy. And kept taking it for about 2 months.
Placenta Capsulation
The placenta is such a magical organ. Connecting and feeding your baby.
After giving birth there are several options for your placenta.
We choose to make a placenta bury ceremony in nature.
8. Placenta pills for fast postpartum recovery
Half of the placenta we used for placenta capsulation and tincture. Which I so much recommend!
As not only the placenta pills helped me with a quick recovery. Also the placenta tincture does magic for my teething baby.
This was made by a connection of our midwife. It is difficult do this yourself.
In the first weeks I took one placenta pill a day.
I felt really good. Lot’s of energy and my womb/belly was reducing fast.
These are all ways the placenta pills can help in your postpartum recovery.
Side note: too much energy
In the first week I had some days I couldn’t sleep. But I did feel tired. I felt a bit overexcited.Too much adrenaline.
Like I had an amazing week at a festival but still need to give everything a place.
Then I stopped taking the placenta pills for a few days. As the pills give you energy. These days I felt more tired and slept easier. After two days I took the pills again. As I do believe in their healing power. At that time I didn’t had this feeling anymore and could still do my siesta (midday sleep).
I’d highly recommend to take the placenta pills.
As my postpartum recovery was fast and good.
The placenta pills definitely helped with it.
Postpartum massages and Reiki
Postpartum massage and/or reiki session helps to rebalance your body and soul.
As giving birth is such a rollercoaster. Not only on a physical level. But also on an emotional level.
There is this beautiful tiny human. That is just there, in your arms. It is so amazing!
You need to give everything a place.
In the first week my doula was still with us. She gave me a maya abdominal massage for my womb and a reiki session.
9. Maya abdominal massage
The maya abdominal massage helps your womb to release emotions. And bring your womb and belly back in shape.
This is a beautiful physical way to restore your body after giving birth.
10. Reiki for postpartum connection
Reiki helped me in a huge way to reconnect with my essences.
Because, all us women. All us mamas.
We know how to take care of your baby.
It is written in your soul.
However, just after giving birth everything can feel overwhelming.
At least it did to me.
Especially in the days that the baby blues pop up.
Reiki is a great way to reconnect with your heart.
And, your heart knows you are doing amazing mama!
If you have the chance book yourself in!
There are also options to get a distance healing session.
