Why a plant-based pregnancy?
We all know a vegan diet is good for animals and the planet. But did you know that being plant-based during pregnancy has amazing health benefits for both you and your little one?
Foods to include in your vegan pregnancy diet
Ben and Jerry’ vegan ice cream. Heaven! Especially when you are pregnant. Unfortunately, it won’t give you all the essential nutritions you need.
These are the 8 essentials for a healthy vegan pregnancy:
- Legumes
- Vegetables
- Fruits
- Tofu, Tempeh, seitan
- Nuts and seeds
- Nutritional yeast
- Fermented or sprouted plant foods

Foods to avoid while pregnant
On Google you’l find big lists with foods to avoid while pregnant. Luckily being vegan makes the list peanuts.
- Alcohol: an open door.
- Caffeine: ok. One cup of coffee is fine. But keep your caffeine intake limited.
- Raw, unwashed and unpasteurized juices.
My vegan pregnancy journey
No morning sickness. No complications. And lots of energy!
My vegan pregnancy has been amazing! I highly recommend a plant-based pregnancy! As I felt great: no complications, no morning sickness. And our baby girl was a big little healthy vegan baby!
08-08-2020 vegan from conception, “Saoirse” arrived. Our little, not so little, miracle weighted 3800 grams (about 8.3 pounds). Our home-birth went fluent. So fluent that the midwife didn’t even had time to set up the birth pool. But he – that is another story.
First trimester: tired due to lack of appetite
I would highly recommend a vegan pregnancy! I felt great. Ok, the first trimester I was tired. My blood pressure was low. As I lost my appetite. When I took the effort to eat a bit more. And put Himalayan salt all everything I ate: I felt much better.
Second trimester: heaven!
The second trimester was heaven! I got my appetite back while travelling Asia: India and Thailand to be exact. Hello; curries and dal soup! So happy I could enjoy it again.
Third trimester: danced until birth ♡
Although the third trimester scared me. Getting really big and losing my energy… It was great! I danced until the day of her birth.
From my experience I totally recommend a vegan pregnancy.
Conclusion
While others might tell you are crazy – you are not. Be sure you get all the essentials listed above – and avoid the obvious. And you will certainly thrive your plant-based pregnancy.
